Okay, so a lot has happened since we started this thing and after a short text message exchange with my sister this morning, I am convinced we are in need of a little re-orienting post. So let’s take a little look at where we have been.
Summer 2011– Cate and Julie have a creative day that ends in closet mania. Cate buys twentypieces.org domain name and gets the website going. We get about thousand hits our first week! We are interviewed by stylist, Christie Moeller, and Wonderfully Made blog.
Fall 2011– Julie becomes obsessed with perfectly curating her closet. Cate considers and all black wardrobe. We give away and sell tons of clothes. Our friend, Kim became the “navy blazer” icon of the internet. Julie washed her clothes with an undetected bottle of sunscreen and nearly ruined them!
Winter 2011– We begin to finalize our new twenty piece wardrobes. Cate goes for a, heavy on the simple black clothes, look. Julie tries to make everything work with everything. Julie spends her new years eve shopping for her last two items and decides on a polka-dot Downton Abbey inspired blouse (that is sadly already falling apart and will likely need to be replaces in the next few months) and a grey dress from Anthropologie that is still in great shape a was a great purchase.
January 1, 2012– We locked in!
Winter 2012– We start gaining tons of awesome guest posters! More and more people join our 10-50 club and link their blog to ours. Cate and I are loving our wardrobes and off to a good start.
Spring 2012– Cate shows her favorite designers. Julie considers cutting her clothes her dresses in half. Murmurings of job possibilities for Cate begin. Julie sells two paintings and participates in her first collaborative exhibition at a real gallery.
Summer 2012– Cate accepts a job that will take her to Houston. Cate thinks this project and all of her clothes are stupid. Julie replaces her little black dress with one she will actually wear. Cate makes a shift into the 10-50 Club now that her job and climate will be dramatically changing.
Now you are up to date on some of the highlights of the project! Tell us how it is going for you! Whether you have just been a bit more mindful of new clothing purchases, have gotten rid of some old clothes, or have taken the Twenty Piece plunge, tell us how it’s going!
I have had some things fall apart and replaced them. I stopped wearing jeans/pants (I hate them) and replaced them with skirts. I’ve been sewing like crazy and so far have made a shirt and skirt that I really love and I know won’t fall apart. I have plans for two more pieces. I bought a slip for the first time ever in my life and am not sure if that makes me an old lady or formerly a flousey.
