Problem: I dropped my salad on my blue and white striped maxi dress. Oily Chinese peanut dressing is splattered from the waste down. The stain may come out. It may not. What ever shall I do?!
Solutions:
1. Carefully cut off tag and wear dress inside out.
2. Cut off skirt part of dress where top as a tank top.
3. Cut stained fabric off of the dress. Sew back together using creative techniques to create new ruched look.
4. Cut off skirt part of dress. Use fabric sans stained part to create a new shorter skirt. Sew back onto top to create a shorter dress.
5) Splatter your whole dress with Oily Chinese peanut dressing for a consistent Pollock inspired look.
6) Prepare a vat of vegetable oil. Soak entire dress in oil. Wash so that the dress is now uniformly stained.
7) Wear another skirt over the skirt part of the dress to nicely cover the stain.
8) Create applique to sew over stains.
9) Dye the whole dress a new color.
10) You leave a comment for #10!
Spray with Shout, then wash with detergent and Tide Stain Release. Hang dry in the sun. One repeat may be needed, but this gets almost ALL stains out of my kids clothes, and they get an incredibly amount of stains on them.
(Not creative, but perhaps useful?)
Spray with Shout. Wash with detergent and Tide Stain Release in a cold water cycle. Hang dry in the sunshine. You may need to repeat this once. My kids get an amazing number of stains in their clothes, and this takes care of almost all of them!
(Creative, no, but perhaps useful?)
This definitely seems like a good first try compared to cutting or oil “dying”
For the oil stains, rub with dye-free dish soap and a little water then throw in washer. Works like a charm – even on old oil stains that have been washed and dried into the fabric.
Cut up maxi dress and use pieces as cleaning rags. Have mom buy you new maxi dress.
Here is the kicker: technically, the dress is dry clean only. I hand washed it last night. It is laying flat to dry in my room. As soon as I finish this comment, it will be the moment of truth. If my hand scrub didn’t work, I will have to take it to the professionals
as an incredibly clumsy person who has made spilling and dripping a habit, i suggest baking soda. this can be combined with water or seltzer. make it into a paste and smear it on the stain. let it sit for a while and then throw it in the wash. if it can’t be machine-washed, then just rinse/repeat as many times as you see fit, and hand wash it. it’s not magic, but i’ve had luck!
